Dow Futures: Drops 200 points and what it means
NBCUniversal's Cookie Notice: More Like a Cookie Monster Manifesto
Oh, NBCUniversal, bless their hearts. They've gifted us with a "Cookie Notice." Not a warning, not an explanation, but a notice. As if we had a choice in the matter. It's like being told you're about to be mugged, but they call it a "monetary redistribution initiative."
The document drones on about first-party and third-party cookies, strictly necessary cookies (because apparently, freedom is a luxury), and enough types of tracking tech to make the NSA blush. They're tracking everything. Your browsing habits, your preferences, your interactions with ads... it's like living in a digital panopticon designed by a committee of marketing executives.
"Data collected under this category can also be used to select and deliver personalized content, such as news articles and videos," they say. Personalized content? You mean the echo chamber of clickbait and outrage designed to keep me glued to the screen and generate ad revenue? Color me thrilled.
The Illusion of Control
They pathetically attempt to placate us with the illusion of control. "Depending on where you live, you may be able to adjust your Cookie preferences at any time via the 'Cookie Settings' link." Oh really? You mean the link that buries itself at the bottom of the page in font size 2? Give me a break.
And the "browser controls"? As if navigating those labyrinthine menus is something the average user has time for. It's like telling someone to fix a car engine with a spork.
Then comes the kicker: "If you disable or remove Cookies, some parts of the Services may not function properly." Translation: We'll hold your user experience hostage until you surrender your privacy. Nice. Real nice.
This isn't about improving user experience. This is about maximizing data collection and ad revenue. It's about turning users into walking, talking data points to be exploited for profit.

But wait, there's more! They're not just tracking you on their sites. Oh no. They're tracking you across platforms and devices. Cross-device tracking. It's like they're building a digital dossier on your entire existence.
Who Are These "Partners," Anyway?
And who are these "partners," anyway? They casually mention advertisers and vendors, but who exactly are we talking about? Are these shadowy data brokers? Are these foreign intelligence agencies? They ain't saying. The lack of transparency is deafening.
"Social Media Cookies: These Cookies are set by social media platforms on the Services to enable you to share content with your friends and networks." Translation: We're letting Facebook and Twitter slurp up your data too. Because why not?
I mean, what’s even the point of pretending anymore? They could just straight up say, "We own your soul now, deal with it." It would be more honest, offcourse.
The Inevitable Bot Fight
Then there's the other gem: "Access to this page has been denied because we believe you are using automation tools to browse the website." So, if I try to use a script to automatically opt-out of their tracking, I'm denied access? It's like a digital arms race. They build the tracking, we build the blockers, they block the blockers...
It's exhausting. It's infuriating. And honestly... I'm starting to feel like I'm the crazy one here. Maybe I'm overreacting. Maybe this is just the price of using the internet in 2025. Maybe... nah, who am I kidding? This is a privacy invasion masquerading as a "Cookie Notice."
The experience of being blocked due to suspected automation is, unfortunately, becoming increasingly common online. Access to this page has been denied.
